Coach MacLean Auditions Lines

Coach Paul MacLean says not to read too much into the lines he’s using during exhibition games. They may not even last from period to period. At this point, they’re only intriguing.
One that has potential, though, is the threesome of Colin Greening, Jason Spezza, and Nikita Filatov. Spezza had some history with Greening last season and he has now played a couple of pre-season games with Filatov.
Greening’s role in this combo is straightforward.
“I’m the power forward who gets into the corners and gets the puck back to them,” he said.
“I think if I can draw guys to me, the more room there is for those guys, and that’s what you need for guys like Spezza and Filatov – they need room to move and showcase their skills.
“So any room I can give them is the way I approach this.”
How Spezza and Filatov, both playmakers, will co-exist is another question. They might have to flip a coin to decide who shoots.
“Obviously I have to shoot the puck a little more, especially on the power play,” said Spezza.
“But I’m not going to change my game.
“Being a playmaker and setting guys up is my bread and butter.
“I do have to shoot the puck a little bit more at times, but I’m not going to get away from what I do best.”
