Cannone re-signs with Senators

Another day, another signing for the Senators.

On Friday, Pat Cannone, a 23-year-old forward, signed a two-year extension with the organization.

Cannone finished third in scoring for the Binghamton Senators of the American Hockey League last season, scoring 19 goals and 43 points in 76 games.

He originally signed as a free agent with the Senators last season, after spending four years with the NCAA’s Miami (Ohio) Redhawks, where he scored 45 goals and 88 assists in 166 college games.

Cannone, who served as a third line centre with Binghamton last season and saw time on both the power play and penalty killing units, is expected to be a regular with the AHL team again in the 2012-13.

Senators assistant GM Tim Murray says that Cannone has the chance to work his way into the NHL at some point, whether it’s as an everyday player or as a call-up.
On Thursday, the Senators signed 19-year-old Swedish defenceman Fredrik Claesson to a three-year entry level contract.
