Winger Bobby Butler will return to the Ottawa Senators’ lineup when they face the Colorado Avalanche at Scotiabank Place on Thursday night.

Butler, who burst onto the Senators’ scene last season skating on a line with Jason Spezza, fell out of favour with head coach Paul MacLean during training camp and spent two of the first three games in the press box as a healthy scratch.

MacLean is trying a new wrinkle for this one, dressing seven defencemen. That means Brian Lee will re-enter the lineup, while Zenon Konopka  and Erik Condra join Nikita Filatov upstairs.

“We want to see what we can do with the minutes and see if we can get out of our zone better,” the coach said following the team’s morning skate.

The Senators will hope have some jump early against a Colorado team that picked up a shootout win in Columbus the night before.

Craig Anderson, who spend most of last season in Denver before being traded to the Senators for Brian Elliott, will be in goal against his former teammates.

More to come…
