Black and blue report

A couple of Ottawa Senators players took a licking at practice Tuesday, but coach Cory Clouston says they’ll keep on ticking and be ready for Thursday’s game against the Wild in Minnesota.

Matt Carkner came limping off the ice early after being cut on his ankle and even though it was expected to take several stitches to close the gash, the coach expects the big defenceman to be ready for practice Wednesday.

Jesse Winchester was also battered and bruised. He took a puck in the throat and was also nursing a sore finger on his right hand. Winchester had his hand covered as he left the dressing room.

Alex Kovalev also missed practice Wednesday because he was “sick”, according to Clouston.

If there’s good news on the injury front, it’s that Pascal Leclaire appears to have recovered from the “lower body” injury which caused him to miss practice on Sunday. If healthy, he could start Thursday against Minnesota, taking over from Brian Elliott, who allowed a pair of questionable goals against Atlanta.
