The Binghamton Senators completed a four-game sweep of the Charlotte Checkers on Wednesday night to advance into the American Hockey League championship series.
Their likely opponents will be the Houston Aeros, who lead the AHL’s Western Conference final series 3-1 after losing 8-1 to the Hamilton Bulldogs on Wednesday.
Ryan Keller scored at 13:05 of the first overtime period to put the Senators, the minor-league affiliate of the Ottawa Senators, into the final with a 4-3 win at Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena in Binghamton.
The Senators squandered leads of 2-0 after the first period and 3-2 in the third before prevailing in overtime.
In regulation time, Binghamton got goals from Ryan Potulny and André Benoît on the power play while Kaspars Daugavins added a shorthanded marker. Chris Terry tallied twice for Charlotte while Casey Borer had the other against Senators goalie Robin Lehner, who stopped 42 shots.
Charlotte goalie Mike Murphy made 36 saves.
