Alfredsson still unlikely to play

Barring a miracle recovery, Daniel Alfredsson won’t be in the lineup for the Ottawa Senators tonight against the New York Rangers.

Barring a miracle recovery, Daniel Alfredsson won’t be in the lineup for the Ottawa Senators tonight against the New York Rangers.

“At this time, there’s no change, no update,” said Ottawa coach Paul MacLean.

The Rangers take a 2-1 lead into the fourth game of this best-of-seven series.

Alfredsson, who didn’t practise on Tuesday, didn’t take part in today’s morning skate.

He suffered a concussion in the second game when Ranger left wing Carl Hagelin elbowed his head into the glass halfway through the second period.

MacLean said he’s not certain who will be in Alfredsson’s spot.

Bobby Butler had it in the third game, but Mike Hoffman, who was recalled from the Binghamton Senators at the end of their regular season, took part in the morning skate.

“We’re keeping all of our lineup options open,” said MacLean.

“Maybe we’ll play him, yes.”

There will be one change on defence, with Matt Carkner coming in for Matt Gilroy.
