Alfredsson joins Karlsson on Twitter

It’s been a big week online for the Ottawa Senators.

Daniel Alfredsson joined Twitter last night, and although he hasn’t yet secured the blue check mark denoting the account’s authenticity, he told reporters that @dalfredsson11 is in fact him.

So what did he come up with for Tweet No. 1?

Okay, okay, so it’s pretty generic, but give him a break — it was pretty good for a first try.

The big worry when athletes join Twitter is that their feeds might just become a glorified corporate spam and not give any real insight into what the athletes are thinking, doing or what they’re interested in. Given Daniel Alfredsson has never been concerned with his “brand,” he’ll probably make good use of it.

Alfredsson, who gained almost 17,000 followers in the last 14 hours or so, still has some work to do to catch Erik Karlsson. Karlsson joined earlier this week and he has nearly 35,000. It didn’t take him long to start setting trends, either:

After the Senators clinched a playoff spot Thursday night, fans made good use of #lalala and #soFHappy.
