A win is a win is a win: Anderson claims NHL third star
Craig Anderson was right.
Maybe the only goaltending statistic that really matter is wins.
Anderson was named the NHL’s third star of the week on Monday, after posting a record of 3-0-1, helping the Senators climb into fifth spot in the Eastern Conference standings.
While Anderson is nowhere near the league leaders in terms of his goals against average (3.13) and save percentage (.902), he’s tied with Nashville’s Pekka Rinne for second in wins, with 20. Detroit’s Jimmy Howard has 24 wins.
Incidentally, Anderson leads the league in a couple of other statistics, numbers which don’t make the defence in front of him look so good. Anderson has faced the most shots (1,120) and made the most saves (1,010) of all NHL goalies.
