One strong exhibition game hardly makes an NHL career, but it’s so far, so good for Ottawa’s Erik Gudbranson, bidding to make the Florida Panthers lineup as an 18-year-old.
Gudbranson opened the scoring, added an assist and played more than 21 minutes in the Panthers 4-1 win over the Carolina Hurricanes Tuesday.
“I like the way he plays,” said Panthers coach Peter DeBoer. “He makes you pay a price.”
Gudbranson, selected third overall in last June’s NHL entry draft, behind Taylor Hall and Tyler Seguin, is still without a contract. But if he keeps this up, Panthers GM Dale Tallon will quickly get down to business.
